2011 and NILUG
Our Christmas meeting went very well. The pizza was good and we did some updates, some installs, some hardware upgrades, etc.
One item was brought up that was directly related to the future of the users group. Currently, NILUG has no officers and no future focus. We just takes things as they come – trying to help new people interested in Linux, and presenting talks on a hit and miss basis.
We would like to change all that to provide a more coherent program to the public and provide more interesting information to the group members. The officer situation needs to be resolved and we should be able to do that in the mailing list.
We need to advertise the meetings and benefits more. A start has been made on this, as the meeting is now listed on Craig’s List. We also need to provide our meeting schedule to the local newspapers and to the Nickel’s Worth.
The topic of talks was also discussed. There were a couple of suggestions for talks, namely
- Favorite plugins for Firefox
- Encrypting your Linux hard disk
- Introduction to GUI Linux for rank beginners
This will also be discussed in the mailing list.
Our next meeting will be on the second Saturday in January, 2011 (the 8th). Until that time, we urge you to join the mailing list to participate in directing the future of NILUG.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
