General Session
The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting starts at 1pm and runs until about 4pm.
Technical Session
The NILUG technical session will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the F1 For Help Computer Store in Rathdrum, ID. The technical session is devoted to helping users with installations and configuration of Linux on their computers.
There will be a technical session after all, as some of the people who were going to the Linuxfest Northwest have dropped out. The meeting will be held this Saturday, 24 April at F1 for Help in Rathdrum. The meeting starts at 1:00pm.
The talk that Frank Ten Thy gave to the group on how to install and configure MythTV was excellent. He installed the Mythbuntu distribution on a computer and used the HDHomeRun tuner as its input. He brought along a set of rabbit-ears for an antenna and we could see that configuring for that tuner was a snap.
Frank then set up another box he had built and installed as a MythTV backend and frontend to show us how other media is handled by the program. He had imported several DVDs to the box and had recorded a bunch of television programs. They all played back flawlessly.
About half of our users group was all set to create a MythTV installation after seeing Frank do it, so that shows how well it was received.
